WITH THE BUGLE CREW
AS A SERGEANT
History: Captain Irwin Barbera is a long-serving member of the New York Police force. Unlike some other officers in the force, Barbera has never taken bribes or been involved with criminals, unless SHIELD tells him to.
Barbera started as a regular officer under the command of Captain George Stacy. He eventually rose through the ranks and became a Sergeant. However, tragedy soon struck. As Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus once did battle on the rooftops, on the ground there was an injured child being aided by then Sergeant Barbera, standing directly in the path of the falling bricks. Captain Stacy, who was also in the crowd below, pushes Barbera and the child out of the way to save them. Unfortunately Captain Stacy is hit full on with the bricks and Spider-Man goes down to save him. Pulling him out of the rubble and once atop the rooftop, Stacy dies in Spider-Man's hands as Barbera looked with grief, but not without first revealing that he knows who Spider-Man really is, but doesn't say his identity in front of Barbera. Spider-Man is given instructions to look after Gwen Stacy, while Barbera worries that Gwen may learn that her father died because of him. Gwen was extremely heartbroken by her father's death and would remain that way for a while. The death of Captain Stacy affected Barbera as well, and he visited Gwen in order to show his respect for his savior. Barbera sent a resignation note to Chief Paul Olson, but Olson didn't approve it, saying that Stacy would have wanted Barbera to stay and take his place. Barbera reluctantly accepted the position of Police Captain.
Barbera is your typical hardnosed cop. Gruff, tough and somewhat short-tempered, Barbera won't tolerate nonsense from anybody. He has developed sort of a friendship with Peter Parker, although he tends to be sarcastic around him quite a few times, but he has a lot of respect for the youngster.
Peter is not the only youngster to have helped Barbera. The spunky detective Penny Mitchell (along with her sidekick Paul Bennett) has also aided the Captain in some cases, and even Felicia Hardy, Angelica Jones, Amanda Rosenthal and Dave Harrison have gone out of their way to help the Captain.
Equipment: Magnum Handgun
Powers: N/A
Skills: Barbera has advanced police training and is a great marksman. He can also handle himself well in a fight.
Weaknesses: Mortal.
Trivia (optional):
-Between Dave and Peter, he doesn't know who makes the more annoying wisecracks.
-He's 5'6" tall.
