Patriot:
Captain America III:
Unmasked:
History: Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jeffrey Mace found employment as a reporter at the Daily Bugle. During the Second World War he was inspired by the heroics of Captain America, and decided to become a costumed adventurer as well. To this end he created the identity of the Patriot. On one such occasion, he helps out Captain America during a dockside scheme by German fifth columnists. It's following this brawl Cap gives Mace a moniker he'll use for a while- he calls Mace a "Patriot". Following this conflict and the resulting fight with his editor, Mace is inspired to become a costumed vigilante of the sort that was increasingly common.
Patriot founds and leads the stateside superhero group known as the Liberty Legion during World War II. With the encouragement of Bucky Barnes, Patriot sends out a call over the radio airwaves for other superheroes to join the fight against Nazi infiltrators. Quite a few respond: Miss America, the Whizzer, Red Raven, Blue Diamond, the Thin Man, and Jack Frost all answer the call and become the Liberty Legion. Throughout the war, the group fights saboteurs, spies, and other enemies within America, serving as the domestic equivalent to the Invaders. After the war, Patriot helps to save John F Kennedy from a 1946 assassination attempt. During this attempt, Mace rescues the second man to call himself Captain America, William Naslund. Naslund dies in front of Mace, who, at the behest of two FBI agents, becomes the new Captain America,
Following the death of the second Captain America, Patriot takes over the identity to continue the Captain's legacy. He spends three years as the third publicly known Captain America, battling domestic enemies alongisde the second Bucky as well as what the Invaders become post-war, the All Winners Squad. Eventually, Davis is shot in an incident involving a perfume smuggler called Lavender. Golden Girl comes to his rescue, reavling herself as his FBI Liason Betsy Ross. Though Davis survives the incident, his leg is injured and he is forced to retire. Golden Girl formerly takes over as his sidekick for the remainder of his career.
Around 1950, Mace is reduced to doing public service announcements around New York state. He stumbles across what seems to be an alien invasion in Valhalla, New York and rescues a young boy, only to find out the whole thing was orchestrated by his then current FBI liaison, Skinner, in an attempt to foil it himself and worm his way into the fledgling Vanguard organization. Instead, Mace uses the knowledge of Skinner's conspiracy as leverage to find out where Golden Girl had been reassigned and voluntarily retires from the role of Captain America under threat of being investigated for treason for alleged leftist ties. He proposes to Ross shortly after this.
The two retire to Glendale, where they lived next door to a young Franklin Storm. Mace wrote for the Glendale Gazette, returning to his roots as a journalist. But he is forced into action once again fatefully when a mysterious woman approaches him, saying she saw him in a vision, asking for help, calling herself an inhuman, she was being hunted by HYDRA remnants for something she was carrying, a Terrigen Crystal. She died in his arms, asking him to deliver it to a certain location. Jeffrey promised her and took it. He swore justice and put on his old Patriot suit and, taking his Shield,we went to the meeting place.
Sadly her contact was dead and HYDRA was waiting. They fought and in the ensuing struggle the crystal shattered, releasing mist. Mace was the only survivor, undergoing Terrigenesis. He awoke on a HYDRA transport plane but easily broke free of his restraints and took down the entire crew, pulverizing a few Dreadnoughts with a few punches. He was stronger, far more durable now, but he didn't want to fight anymore.
In time though he learned he had one more power. He was aging at a very unnoticeable rate, while Betsy grew older and older. Grief stricken and angry, he couldn't cope with the thought of out living Betsy, but she got through to him. He had power, he needed a purpose, and she one to him him: One day America may yet need the Patriot again. He needed to stand tall. To be a symbol of hope again when things look their darkest. And she would stand by him until the end.
His faith restored, he enjoyed a quiet life until recent times. Cap made his return, and so did a great many evils. Jeffrey called up Fury and offered to help as an agent of SHIELD. He trained many agent for the field and he then spearheaded the Thunderbolt Intitiative which has now merged with Task Force X to become Task Force Thunder.
Also sadly Betsy has passed on. She passed in her sleep 2 weeks ago. Losing her and Reed hit Patriot hard. He has since gotten a Job again at the planet, working along Clark Kent, the Super Soldier Amalgamate of Superman and Steve. The two are bonding closely. Jeffrey still leads the Thunderbolts side of the Task Force, but for now he is letting Snake lead while he is on bereavement leave.
Equipment: Shield: As Captain America, Mace used a shield resembling the ones carried by his predecessors. While it was made of enhanced titanium, Mace's shield did not have the same virtually-indestructible properties of Steve Rogers' shield, though Mace became proficient in throwing it as an offensive weapon. He still uses it from time to time.
Powers:
Superhuman Strength: Patriot's Inhuman strength his not been fully charted, but he is noted to be strong enough to catch a punch for Red She-Hulk. The current estimate is at least 50 tons.
Prolonged Aging: Patriot's rate of aging is significantly reduced. He has aged only a few years since the 50's.
Superhuman Durability: Patriot is durable enough to freefall from 120 feet in the air and land without a scratch or harm from the force of terminal velocity and the impact of such a landing. He can take blows from much stronger foes and keep getting up.
Superhuman Durability: Patriot's body is much harder and more resistant to conventional physical injury than the body of a normal human. He can withstand high caliber bullets, falls from great heights, exposure to extreme temperatures and pressures, powerful energy blasts, and tremendous impact forces without sustaining injury.
Healing Factor: While his body is highly durable, it is possible to injure him. If injured, his accelerated metabolism allows him to rapidly heal from mild to moderate injuries faster than a normal human. Ultimately, the full limits of his heightened healing abilities aren't known. However, it is believed that he is unable to fully regenerate severed limbs or missing organs should such injuries occur.
Skill: Mace was a superb hand-to-hand combatant and an exceptional all-around athlete. Jeff Mace is a licensed pilot. He is a gifted and intelligent leader, although by his own admission he wasn't as smart as Steve Rogers. He is also a skilled reporter.
Weaknesses: Jeffrey lacks long distance weaponry without his Shield
Trivia:
- Since him being an inhuman was false and based on Mr. Hyde, I gave him a few more of MR. Hyde's power, but in this reality he IS an inhuman.
