History: Weldon Gray used to be a rare coin dealer. He had a normal life and a wife, but once she left him, he became bitter and vengeful. He wanted to get even with her. When Peter Parker was sent to do a feature story on Gray, an unknown assailant attacked them and knocked them out. Peter managed to take some pictures before he was knocked out, but there was one additional picture in the film roll. It was the picture of what seemed to be a woman. It was Bonita Gray, Weldon Gray's ex-wife. Peter refused to give his pictures to the police and was arrested for not giving the evidence.
Gray decided to take things into his own hands after Peter didn't hand over the pictures. He had the man who disguised as Mrs. Gray plant a coin at the bottom of one of the drawers in Mrs. Gray's apartment. Mrs. Gray was arrested after the coin was found.
However, Robbie Robertson managed to have the Bugle's lawyers talk to the judges to give Peter time to bring the real culprit. Due to Peter having burned his previous Spider-Man suit and not being willing to use the black one he saved in his apartment, he put on a paper bag around his head and fought Gray, using his powers. While they fought, Gray made a rip in Peter's paper bag mask and saw a glimpse of his face before Peter knocked him out.
Gray was arrested and his ex-wife was cleared of all charges. However, crime boss Wilson Fisk managed to pull some strings in order to release Gray from prison. After being released, Gray met with Fisk, who offered him a position as Oscorp's new CEO due to Norman Osborn being rehabilitated at Ravencroft. Now, Gray is ready to get revenge on Peter and make his life a nightmare. He has also allied himself with the CEO of the Alchemax Corporation, himself a reality-displaced Peter Parker.
