These are the basic rules for role playing here at Universal Nightmare. Please read and follow them accordingly.
1. Write your RP posts as if you were writing a story, with paragraphs and sentences, script format is fine elsewhere, but don't write it that way in the main RP. A few spelling mistakes are fine, everyone does it, but don't intentionally write it like chat speak and please at least try to make your posts readable.
Right
Green Lantern flies toward Planet Oa and lands
WRONG
Green Lantern: *flies to Oa* *lands*
2. Indicate when you're speaking out of character in the main RP, and keep these posts short and simple, try not to make it longer than your RP posts.
3. Violence is generally okay, but don't go overboard with it. Overly graphic details are a little excessive, especially if blood and innards are flying everywhere.
4. Profanity is acceptable, and it's alright if your character swears as far as characterization goes, just don't overdo it and don't attack other users through your characters, if you have a problem with anyone, PM them and try to resolve things peacefully.
5. Romance is fine, characters can be freely interested in each other. Open raunchy sexual situations on the other hand, not so much. They can be implied, but no going into detail. If you absolutely must, keep it to PM or your chat systems, behind closed doors where no one can see. These are not allowed on the Shoutbox either. Also please make sure the other person is okay with it before you go through with it.
6. No killing off other people's characters without their consent. You must also tell the admins who you're killing off and how you're doing it. If they don't give you consent then I'm afraid that's that. No killing off characters out of spite either. If you want to kill off your own character, let us know who you're killing off, how, and why, and we'll discuss it.
7. Similarly, if you quit the site and do not want your characters to be given to someone else, let us know who is safe and who to kill off.
8. If we want to kill someone off for story purposes it will be discussed with the character's owner. We won't force anyone's hand and if it's your character you do have a say in it.
9. If we ban you from the site for misconduct we may kill off your guys (likely your OC's depending on if they are important or not.)
10. No writing for other people's characters without their consent. This goes for attacking them as well. Imply your attack, but do not auto hit. Allow the person the chance to dodge, counter or decide the damage inflicted. If you want to have something happen in your post, talk it out in PM's.
11. No claiming characters that have already been claimed. If someone claims a particular character, you can't claim him as well. Unless the character has multiple identities (for example: Green Lantern, Spider-Man, Toyman, etc.) or you're picking another version from the multiverse, you can't claim him.
12. If you claim a character, you cannot RP as them until you get their bios up, although you can imply what they might be doing offscreen through other characters if you'd like. However, if you really want to introduce any of them, you will be allowed to do so for one plotline. After that plot is finished, you will have to finish the bio to use him or her again.
13. As far as inactivity goes, we're aware that people tend to get pretty busy in their lives, however if a week goes by with no responses to an RP and no one's been notified why, you can PM whoever's holding up the RP and direct them to the thread.
